Joplin Arts Fest is proud to announce the return of jeweler Mary Lou Christie to the 10th Anniversary show at the Cornell Complex in downtown Joplin. Her beautiful work can be found on the Leggett & Platt Green this September 20 & 21.
“Each unique piece is typically sketched out before fabrication. (Although, many times the piece somehow speaks to me and it changes during the fabrication process). Fabrication is done using sheet silver and/or copper and various gauges of wire with traditional silver smithing techniques and an acetylene torch. No molds or metal clays are used.
Bezels are individually built to secure gemstones, fossils or vitreous enamel plates. Texture is used to create movement and interest by hammering, stamping and punching. Embossing plates are made by drawing designs on metal with permanent ink, etched in mordant and then rolled through with sheet metal in the rolling mill. Handmade chain and closures are forged to suspend pendants. After the fabrication process, each piece is throughly cleaned and polished. Patina is applied and the piece is buffed to a shine. The final step is to set any stones or inserts.”
