Downtown Joplin Alliance is an independent non-profit dedicated to the revitalization of Downtown. By supporting the organization’s activities and efforts, you support the economic vitality of Downtown through
- The preservation of historic buildings
- The marketing and promotion of our small businesses, especially Mom and Pops
- The connection of property owners with resources and prospective businesses
- The creation of events that bring people to the district

Downtown Joplin Alliance is a not for profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the downtown community as a thriving, safe, and attractive center of art, history, enterprise, commerce, culture, residence, and entertainment
In a Nutshell
Downtown Joplin Alliance has been around since 1989. We guide community-based revitalization efforts focusing on Downtown Joplin. We follow the National/State “Main Street” model to harness the social, economic, physical, and cultural assets that set Joplin apart and ultimately lead to tangible outcomes that benefit the entire community.
We leverage both the art and science of downtown revitalization to create a better quality of life for all. The result of these efforts is a community with strong social cohesion and economic opportunity; a downtown that supports and sustains innovation and opportunity; places where people of diverse perspectives and backgrounds come together to shape the future.
Ultimately, we strive to create a place where people love to be. A place that values its history, but looks forward, ready for the future.
Downtown Joplin Alliance is a volunteer and community driven organization. We currently have one full-time Executive Director, Lori Haun, and one part-time Communication Specialist, Mariah Irvin. We have recently added Ivy Hagedorn as Market Coordinator for Empire Market. Our board consists of 9-13 members made up of downtown property owners, business owners and managers, residents, and other community stakeholders. We also have a city representative and council representative ex-officio. The work of the organization is accomplished through the four committees: Promotion, Design, Economic Vitality, and Organization.

- MARKET FESTIVALS
By promoting and working with exisiting and prospective business owners to establish and grow their businesses.
By providing resources for historic restoration and reuse of Joplin’s historic assets. We connect building owners to prospective businesses.
By improving the image of Downtown both through marketing efforts as well as physical improvements like “adopt a flower bed” and cleanup days.

We work tirelessly to improve the appearance and economics of downtown, to create a place that people from all over the region love to be. A place that houses the best small businesses in the coolest buildings. A place that is entirely Joplin and unlike anywhere else. We invite you to eat downtown; to shop downtown; to play downtown.
And when you are here, look around. Admire the buildings that hold the history of our community. Smell the flowers that adorn the sidewalks. Shop the unique small businesses that are owned by your neighbors. See the people who make up this community we call home.
